Leeds Grand Mosque visits RAF Linton on Ouse

On Monday 7th November a group of attendees from Leeds Grand Mosque visited the RAF base in Linton-on-Ouse following 3 visits from the RAF to the mosque.

The invitation was extended to all the community and anyone who was interested was able to attend. The gathering place was at the mosque where there was a coach sent to us from the RAF to take us to their base. The total number of people who attended was 15 including 2 from the management committee and our imam Sheikh M.Taher and his family.

The group was received with a warm welcome and taken around different sections of the base to understand what takes place there. We got to visit the tower and Radar room where aircrafts are guided during the landings.

We also got to climb into the aircraft and understand the main functions of the buttons and screens in the front. We also visited the simulator room where students are trained to deal with emergencies on ground in an environment similar to being in air while guided by an instructor in another room.

Our needs were catered for by providing a Halal buffet and a room to perform our prayers. The visit lasted for about 4-5 hrs in which we felt that we as a community can benefit from services provided by the RAF especially the youth. Everyone enjoyed the visit and managed to express concerns and questions on behalf of the community.
