Leeds Grand Mosque welcomes the leader of the Liberal Democrats

Leeds Grand Mosque welcomes the visit of Charles Kennedy, leader of the Liberal democrats, this afternoon, during which he met with the Mosque Management Committee as well members of the local Muslim community.

In the aftermath of the 7/7 attacks in London and the increasing pressures mounting against the Muslim community in Britain generally, and in Leeds specifically, this visit is seen as a significant opportunity to reiterate the stand of the local Muslim community on a number of relevant issues, directly to the leader of one of the main political parties.

Chairman of LGM, Br. Zaher Birawi stated: 'Leeds Muslims welcomed the stand of the Liberal Democrats during their recent annual conference, in rejecting all attacks against British Muslims, as well as their insistence on the link between the criminal attacks in London and our Government's foreign policy, especially in relation to the war in Iraq, and its domestic initiatives, manifested in the draconian and inhumane anti-terror laws.'

During this visit, the Leeds Grand Mosque Management Committee expressed their gratitude for the continued support of the Liberal Democrat Party, and their desire for further collaboration on the local level.
